Registration for purchase of Amma Cement begins

‘Amma Cement’ will be sold at Rs. 190 per kg

Registration for purchase of Amma Cement at subsidised price of Rs.190 per kg under the `Amma Cement Scheme’ commenced in 26 godowns comprising 14 under the control of the Department of Rural Development and Village Panchayats and 12 godowns of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) in Vellore district on Monday.

According to a release from R. Nanthagopal, Collector of Vellore, the government has introduced the scheme in order to make cement available at a subsidised price to the low income and middle class people. They often face difficulty to obtain cement in the light of the increase in the price of the commodity.

The godowns have been asked to sell Amma Cement at a price of Rs.190 per kg (inclusive of taxes) to eligible persons for house construction/repairs.

A person engaged in the construction of house is eligible for Amma Cement only if he is planning to construct a maximum plinth area of 1500 square feet. He is eligible for a maximum allotment of 750 bags at the rate of 50 bags per 100 square feet of building construction.

Persons interested in buying Amma Cement should submit the approved building plan or a certificate obtained from the village administrative officer, revenue inspector, supervisor of the rural development department or road inspector of the department as evidence of building construction. After calculating the amount payable for the cement based on their requirements, the buyers should purchase a demand draft in a bank, submit the same to the godown in-charge official and register for purchase of Amma Cement.

The seniority list would be prepared based on the date of registration, and the cement bags would be supplied to the buyers based on this seniority number.

Interested buyers have been asked to obtain the acknowledgement from the godown-in-charge after submitting the documents and the demand draft. The buyers should transport the cement to their work sites at their own cost. If necessary the buyers could check the weight of the cement bags at the godowns.

Toll free number

The public could get further information about the scheme by contacting the toll-free number 1800-425-22000 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., or by logging on to www.ammacement.com.

The Tamil Nadu Cements Ltd will be the coordinating agency for implementing the scheme jointly with private cement companies, the Department of Rural Development and Village Panchayats, TNCSC, Tamil Nadu Women’s Development Corporation and other departments.

The Assistant Director of Local Fund Audit and the Regional Manager of TNCSC have been appointed liaisons officers for the implementation of the scheme in a proper manner.

Only a person who constructs a house with a maximum plinth area of 1500 sq feet will be eligible to obtain the cement.

A maximum of 750 bags will be allotted at the rate of 50 bags per 100 square feet of building construction
