Rally taken out to create awareness

October 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - NAGERCOIL:

Over 500 students different schools took out a rally against use of plastic here on Wednesday and distributed pamphlets to the public.

The campaign ‘Save Our Generation’ said that in another 10 years, groundwater levels would go down drastically, rivers and ponds would be polluted by industries, use of non bio-degradable plastic would have polluted air, water and land, outbreak of viral diseases would be uncontrollable and forest areas would be destroyed. “And we do not want to live in that society,” a slogan by students said.

They requested the public to plant saplings, dump garbage only in dustbins and not in sewage channels, avoid using plastic and consume food that is not against nature.

They carried placards with slogans urging the people not to use plastic and polythene bags as the practice caused severe damage to the ecosystem.

“Help us in following these simple rules and create a prosperous, healthy society for us to live in,” they said.

The rally was flagged off by Chairman of Nagercoil Municipality Meena Dev.
