Rain raises dam level

In the wake of rain that lashed Theni town and nearby areas since Tuesday night, water level has increased in dams in the district. Inflow into major dams has increased, thanks to good rainfall in the catchment areas. Water level stood at 115.6 feet in Periyar dam, with an inflow of 1,327 cusecs. Vaigai dam has been receiving 1,420 cusecs and the level touched 46.13 feet. The discharge was 60 cusecs. Storage in Manjalar dam was 52.40 feet, Sothuparai dam 88.56 feet and Shanmuganadhi dam 51 feet. Agriculture officials said that area under pulses cultivation in rain-fed areas would increase this year.

Dindigul

There was rain in Dindigul district also. There was good flow in all streams in Kodaikanal. Old trees got uprooted in upper Kodaikanal hills. The total rainfall recorded in the district was 177.8 mm while the average was 17.78 mm. Rainfall recorded at various places at 8 a.m. on Wednesday (in mm): Dindigul 3.8, Kodaikanal 35.4, Kodaikanal Boat Club 57.5, Natham 45.5, Nilakotti 10, Palani 10.5, Vedasandur 1.2, Chathirapatti 11, Vedasandur Tobacco Research Station 1.4 and Kamatchipuram 1.5.

Periyar 23.2, Thekkadi 48, Andipatti, 6.2, Aranmanaipudur 29.6, Bodi 67.4, Gudalur 19.5, Manjalar 35, Periyakulam 6, Sothuparai 9, Uthamapalayam 16.2, Vaigai dam 3.8 and Veerapandi 64.
