Chennai and other coastal areas of the State are likely to receive rain from December 15. However, dry weather may prevail over the State for the next two to three days.

Officials of the Indian Meteorological Department said a low pressure area over equatorial Indian Ocean and the adjoining central parts of south Bay of Bengal is expected to cause rainfall from December 15.

The well-marked low pressure area is yet to develop into a cyclonic storm. It is likely to move west and then south-westwards towards the State by Thursday.

The weather system is expected to bring moderate rainfall in isolated places from Wednesday in the north coastal districts such as Chennai.

A few places may receive heavy rainfall. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.

Fishermen engaged in deep sea fishing have been advised to return to the coast.
