A portion of a brick and mortar structure on top of an ancient mantap in the Vijaya Vittala Temple complex at Hampi collapsed following heavy rain on Friday night.

According to delayed information reaching here on Sunday, the issue came to light late on Saturday evening when the security staff noticed the debris and informed the officials of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

Hampi and surrounding places experienced good rainfall on Friday night.

Efforts to contact ASI officials to ascertain further details went in vain.
