The welfare schemes of the various departments and quasi-government bodies of the central and state governments will be showcased in 50 stalls during the Public Information Campaign (PIC).

The event is being organised by the Press Information Bureau, other wings of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India and the district administration at the Saradambal Srinivasa Mudaliar Kalyana Mandapam here from October 6 to 8.

Briefing newspersons about the PIC here on Monday, Jacob Abraham, Deputy Director of the PIB, Chennai and Chidambaranathan, Assistant Director of the PIB said that the PIC is an exhibition being organised with the aim of ensuring that information about welfare schemes formulated by the Government of India reaches people from all walks of life.

Highlights

'The highlights of the exhibition in Vellore include a mela to exchange soiled and damaged currency notes being organised by the Reserve Bank of India on all three days of the campaign.

The RBI would also distribute coins to the public, in exchange for currency notes. The RBI representatives will also explain to the visitors how to differentiate a genuine currency note from a counterfeit one.

At the exhibition, information is conveyed to the people through attractively arranged exhibits as well as through direct interaction of professionals manning the stalls with the visitors.

Seminars, public meetings

The second part of the programme consists of various seminars and public meetings that are held at the PIC venue.

These are addressed by officials implementing the programmes as well as opinion leaders like MPs, MLAs, Panchayat Raj institution representatives.

Sessions are also arranged for people to directly interact with opinion leaders and officials about the various programmes.

The third part of the programme involves village-level programmes that would be organised by the Directorate of Field Publicity in 10 villages to publicise the welfare schemes of the central government.

Mr. Abraham said that on all three days, cultural programmes would be organised by the Song and Drama Division of the Ministry of Information Broadcasting in the evenings. Representatives of the National Institute of Open Schooling would explain their activities at 10.30 a.m. on October 7.

Vellore Collector R. Nanthagopal will inaugurate the PIC at 10.30 am. on Tuesday. The inaugural function will be preceded by a procession starting from the Government Higher Secondary School, Thorapadi at 9.30 a,m. and culminating in the venue of the campaign at 10.30 a.m.
