The police have provided security to the houses of two persons arrested in the case of uploading provocative posters in a social messaging platform earlier this month that insulted a minority community.
Police sources said that they have provided security at the houses of Praburam, a Hindu Munnani functionary who had placed an order for the poster, and the proprietor of a printing unit Senthil Kumar, who had executed the order, following their arrest and remand, due to severe threat perception.
While Senthil Kumar was arrested a few days back, the main accused Praburam was nabbed on Saturday. Son of a retired police constable, Praburam, a full-time Hindu Munnani worker, had confessed to have conceived the idea of the poster as a retaliation against a poster put up by a Muslim organisation near Paneerselvam Park in Erode announcing Rs. one crore prize for anybody proving the reality of witchcraft.
Praburam had reportedly considered the poster as obliquely insulting Hinduism.
Sources known to the main accused said his act of mentioning the name and telephone number of the Hindu Munnani State Vice-President Poosappan in the uploaded poster was baffling. There was no direct contact between them and there was understandably no rivalry, the sources said.
Besides Poosappan, police security is also being provided for Hindu Munnani State Secretary Shanmugasundaram and local BJP functionary Sivasubramaniam.
