Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting scheduled here on January 27 will give a boost to Bharatiya Janata Party’s growth plan in Tamil Nadu and South India, said party national general secretary P. Muralidhar Rao. Mr. Rao, along with Union Minister of State for Finance and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan and party State president Tamilisai Soundararajan, was here on Wednesday to inspect the arrangements at the meeting venue at Mandela Nagar near the Madurai international airport.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate several facilities and also lay the foundation stone for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Madurai.

Talking to reporters, he said Madurai’s meeting that had been scheduled 40 days ahead of the declaration of election to Lok Sabha, was very important for the party.

In the last four-and-half years, several developmental works had been taken up in Tamil Nadu by the Centre. “No other government has done so much of work in the State in a short span of time,” he said.

The works taken up on the infrastructure front, smart cities, highways, shipping, railways and defence corridor were incomparable, he added.

Report card

The Prime Minister will give a report card for the developmental projects taken up in Tamil Nadu and also for the entire nation by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government.

“He will explain to the people of Tamil Nadu what his government has done for the State and the country,” Mr. Rao said.

He held discussion with party in-charge of 10 Lok Sabha constituencies of southern districts, State office-bearers and morcha office-bearers about the meeting arrangements.

Asked about possible allies in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Rao said no party would come out in open about their alliance talks. “Only after finalising the alliance, would they make it public,” he said.

Mr. Rao said that talks on alliance with parties were going on and would be declared at an appropriate time. He said Mr. Modi would make the final decision about the alliance partner for Tamil Nadu.
