Police book cases against Vijay fans in central districts

They put up banners without permission

Protests by AIADMK cadre demanding removal of certain objectionable scenes in the Vijay-starrer Sarkar continued on Friday in certain places in the central districts, even as the police booked cases against the actor’s fans for having put up hoardings and flex banners without obtaining due permission. Morning shows of the film were cancelled in some theatres in Nagapattinam and Thanjavur district.

Agitated AIADMK cadre gave vent to their ire by tearing hoardings installed in front of a theatre in Kumbakonam town. Police sources said protests by the AIADMK cadre were held at Sirkazhi, Mayiladuthurai and Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district, besides Thanjavur town and Kumbakonam.

Morning shows at theatres in Sirkazhi, Mayiladuthurai and Vedaranyam, besides Kumbakonam, were cancelled due to the protests. The police registered cases in different police stations against the actor’s fans in Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Karur, Pudukottai, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts.

No arrests made

Over 95 cases were booked across the central region against fans of the actor under Section 4 of The Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act.

Cases were booked against them for having installed banners and hoardings without obtaining due permission, and causing obstruction to traffic, said the police. However, no arrests were made. Thirty one cases were booked in Thanjavur district and 21 in Tiruvarur district. Twenty cases were booked in Nagapattinam district, 10 in Karur district, eight in Tiruchi district, three in Perambalur and two in Ariyalur district.
