Pattali Makkal Katchi cadre, led by Member of Parliament Anbumani Ramadoss, staged an agitation here on Saturday to protest against the dumping of untreated sewage and industrial effluents in the Cauvery.

Dr. Anbumani said that dumping of untreated sewage and industrial effluents in the Cauvery and the Pennaiyar posed threat to the lives of people. Karnataka had no right to dump untreated sewage in the rivers as it was against the rights for clean water enshrined in the Constitution.

Dr. Anbumani called upon both the Union and State governments to take effective steps to check the pollution in the Cauvery , which is the lifeline of delta districts.

He demanded a proper inquiry into the impact on both the rivers owing to the pollution.

He warned that a mass public movement will be launched mobilising support from different political parties if no action was taken with immediate effect to check this trend.
