The PMK and the MDMK should quit the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance to oppose the “anti-Tamil” policies of the Union government, CPI State secretary D. Pandian said on Saturday.
He told The Hindu here that the CPI, which was working on a third front in Tamil Nadu, would make an appeal to leaders of the regional secular parties.
“Any party that that splits is weak,” he said, asked about the split in the Congress. The CPI would support G.K. Vasan’s party if he chalked out a policy against the BJP.
In Tamil Nadu, the government would make an additional profit of Rs. 1,500 crore by increasing liquor prices, much more than the Rs. 400 crore it would get by increasing milk prices, a decision that affected the people, Mr. Pandian said.
He also urged the government to drop the plan to increase power tariffs.
