Seeking monthly assistance, a group of aged women and widows from Panagudi in the district submitted petition to Collector M. Karunakaran on Monday.

In the petition submitted to the Collector, they said that the monthly assistance being given to the widows of Panagudi had been suspended for the past few months without any reason.

The applications submitted with the special tahsildar, Radhapuram by a good number of senior citizens seeking old age pension were gathering dust for the past several months and the applications were yet to be scrutinised, they alleged.

“Since welfare schemes and social security schemes meant for the deprived sections of the society have not reached the target group due to official apathy, the Collector should instruct his subordinates to serve the disadvantaged,” said K. Jaya of Socialist Women’s Organisation, who accompanied the aged petitioners.
