In his first official statement on the law and order situation after taking over as Chief Minister, O. Panneerselvam made an open appeal for peace.

A couple of hours after the Karnataka High Court rejected Ms. Jayalalithaa’s bail plea, Mr. Panneerselvam held a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

Stating that party leader Jayalalithaa would not approve of any action that would cause inconvenience to public, he asked people not to resort to ‘bandhs’ or work stoppage.
