A group of students from a private fine arts institution in Chennai took part in spot painting at Kailasanathar temple here on Sunday. Enthusiastic students of different age groups visited the temple and went through the sandstone sculptures and murals, which was explained to them by art historian K.T. Gandhirajan.
Later, they sat in groups on the sprawling lawns in front of the temple and started painting the Pallava period edifice on papers. S. Venkatachalapathy, founder of the institution — Sri Annai Kamakshi Kalaikoodam — also joined them.
Awareness creation
Gandhirajan said that the institution’s objective was to impart knowledge about the traditional art forms of this country among the youth.
Stating that the western-type colonial fine arts has been projected as the prime form of fine arts, he said it was high time the youth were exposed to the different types of fine arts of India and hence, such events were being organised.
