Painting contest for school, college students

To create awareness about the traditional arts and crafts, and the festivals of the country among school and college students, the Tamil Nadu Cultural Training Centre, Manakkaru, conducted a painting competition titled ‘Vaanga Varaiyalam 2015’ in connection with the National Youth Day on Saturday (for school students) and Sunday (for college students).

Tamil Nadu was the origin of various branches of culture and fine arts.

The traditional culture of Tamil Nadu was the root of universal cultures. The competition was to introduce these arts and cultures to the students, said M. Sabapathi, joint director of the Tamil Nadu Cultural Training Centre.

About 400 school student and 100 college students from the districts of Salem, Erode, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri displayed their talent in painting.

The topic for the college students was ‘let us protect our traditional art and culture’.

Categories

The school students were divided into six categories. While the topic for the students below five years was ‘musical instruments’, the topic for the students of Classes I to III was ‘the martial arts I like’; for the students of Classes IV to VI ‘the folk arts of my choice’, for the students of Classes VII to IX ‘rural artistes’ and for students of Classes X and XII the topic was ‘folk artistes’.

J. Sampathkumar, district coordinator of the Nehru Yuva Kendra, and Kadir Rajarathinam, industrialist, gave away prizes to the winners.

M. Thiagarajan, Director of the Tamil Nadu Cultural Training Centre, presided.

The following were winners in different categories: school students:

Below 5 years: 1. S. Sadhana (Erode), 2. S. Melwyn (Salem), 3. S. Sabarish (Salem).

Classes I to III: 1. C. Sanjay (Salem), 2. C. Shivani (Salem), 3. T. Hariharasudhan (Salem).

Classes IV to VI: 1. K. Sakthi (Salem), 2. V. Shreya (Salem), 3. C. Samaya (Salem).

Classes VII to IX: 1. M. Dinesh Kumar (Salem), 2. T. Kaviprasad (Salem), 3. A. Pooja (Salem).

Classes X to XII: 1. C. Mukundhu (Salem), 2. K. Pandhala Rajkumar (Salem), 3. C. Muruganandam (Salem).

College students:

1.K. Sakthivel (Attur), 2. M. Jeeva (Dharmapuri) and 3. V. Amirthalingam (Salem).
