Over ₹750 crore GST evasion detected in State: Union Minister

A total of 148 cases of Goods and Services Tax (GST) evasion involving ₹757.34 crore were detected in Tamil Nadu in the current financial year (between April and November), according to data presented in Parliament.

Of this, ₹426.47 crore in 101 cases had been recovered, Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. Recently, the GST Commissionerate unearthed a fake invoice scam and arrested three persons in Chennai. In July, a case was booked in Coimbatore against M/S Mantra Industries Pvt. Ltd., a major supplier of set top boxes to the Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Ltd (TACTV).

Between April to November, 3,196 cases were detected across India for suspected GST evasion amounting to ₹12,766.85 crore.

An amount of ₹7,909.96 crore had been recovered in 2,634 cases. Maharashtra recorded GST evasion of ₹3,898.72 crore, Uttar Pradesh ₹998.62 crore, Karnataka ₹844.17 crore and Gujarat ₹548.16 crore. Measures taken to check GST evasion include intelligence-based enforcement and e-way bill squads.
