Outdated information steals charm out of Tirupur website

Several data in the website not updated for long

January 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - Tirupur:

In today's digital era, the websites play an important role in disseminating information provided the data are updated periodically.

But anyone visiting the official website of Tirupur district can fall prey to the misguided information and blunders, if they are not careful enough to recheck the authenticity of the same, as many of the data in the website are not updated for long.

Blunders

For example, the website tells that the district has a total of 105 branches of various public sector and private sector banks whereas the Lead Bank sources told The Hindu that the district presently has 282 ‘bank branches’ of nationalised and private banks. The names of banks like Dena Bank and State Bank of Hyderabad and its branches details did not even figure in the list.

Some blunders also crept in the same category like Dhanalakshmi Bank, a major private sector bank, got listed under ‘nationalised banks’ and IDBI Bank, a government sector bank been listed as private bank.

Similarly, some of the banks which are non existent like Bank of Rajasthan, which got merged with ICICI Bank in 2010, still figures in the list.

When it comes to health department data, the number of Primary Health Centres in the district had gone up to 44 a few years ago itself , though the website carries old data.

According to the website, the city police commissioner is in the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police while the Commissioner is presently an IG.

Memorandum

Aam Aadmi Party district convener S. Sundarapandian said that the party had sent a memorandum to the Chief Minister’s office requesting the government to issue directions to the authorities concerned to periodically update the data in the website.

“Many of the telephone numbers given are that of the officials who had already been posted out of the district long ago. So it is irritating for the people in the case of emergencies,” he added.
