One dead, seven hurt in road accident

One person was killed and seven others were injured in an accident on the By-pass Road at Vagaikulam under Nanguneri police limits on Sunday. According to police, the accident occurred when a group of people from Agastheeswaram in Kanyakumari district were returning home from Courtallam. The driver of the vehicle lost control and hit a milestone erected on the roadside when a dog suddenly crossed the road. P. Balamurugan (42) of Vinayakar Street, Agastheeswaram, Assistant Headmaster of Thangachimadam Government Higher Secondary School, sustained serious injuries and died. The injured people, including four children, were admitted to a private hospital in Nagercoil. Two of the children suffered head injuries, sources said.

Based on a complaint lodged by Amirthaselvi (36), wife of deceased, Nanguneri police have registered a case.
