One held for felling sandalwood trees

Police are on the lookout for 4 others

One person was arrested on Wednesday for felling and smuggling four sandalwood trees from Tiruvannamalai District Forest Office premises last month. Four others would be arrested soon, said the police.

On the intervening night of May1 and 2, the smugglers had entered the campus and chopped four sandalwood trees with the help of motorised saw. The act was caught on the CCTV camera .

Forest Range Officer Manoharan had filed a complaint with Tiruvannamalai crime branch police after the incident.

Following the complaint, the police arrested and remanded one Rameswaran (28) of Rangasamuthiram village in Tiruppathur taluk of Vellore district.
