Not aware of EC directive, says Palaniswami

Hits out at Stalin for making ‘wild allegations’ against him

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Sunday said that he had not received any information on the Election Commission of India’s direction to file a First Information Report (FIR) against him, AIADMK (Amma) deputy general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran and a few other State Ministers on the charge of bribing voters during the R.K Nagar by-election.

Interacting with reporters here, Mr. Palaniswami said that he had heard about the information only through mediapersons.

Countering allegations made by Opposition Leader M.K. Stalin that there was no governance in the State, he said the DMK leader had been making wild allegations for political gain, and that the opposition parties were trying to defame the government.

According to him, though there were some issues in the ruling party due to various reasons, the government was functioning well. It had been making sincere efforts to implement schemes, programmes and solve the problems faced by the people. The State has been witnessing one of the worst droughts in its history. However, the government had made it a point to supply drinking water to the people without any major hindrances.

‘No pending files’

Asked about the accusations by former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam that many files were pending with the CM’s Office, Mr. Palaniswami insisted that no file was pending with him. All files have been cleared and Government Orders issued on various matters, Mr. Palaniswami said.
