The district administration is eagerly expecting Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore, to sanction a second constituent college in Modakurichi Assembly constituency.
Student strength has been increasing rapidly in the Bharathiar University College of Arts and Science functioning out of the government school in Sivagiri town.
At the start of the academic year, all the 200 seats for the four new PG programs: M.A. English Literature, M.Sc. Mathematics, M.Com CA, and M.Sc. Computer Science were filled. Since the fee structure is affordable and reasonable, there has been a huge patronage for the college from parents from rural areas.
According to sources, the university is expected to start M.Com next academic year. Steady increase in student strength is a strong indication of the necessity for another college. There will be no hitch in starting another college once the University Senate and Syndicate accord approval, Collector S. Prabakar said.
