A.P.J. M. J. Sheik Saleem, grand nephew of former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, could not be given any responsibility in the recently launched “Abdul Kalam’s Vision India Movement” as he has joined a political party, V. Ponraj, aide of the former President, has said.
While launching the movement on September 4, they made it clear that it would be apolitical and Mr. Saleem, who had joined a political party, had become ineligible to hold any post in the body, Mr. Ponraj said reacting to Mr. Saleem joining BJPin New Delhi last week.
Leaders and volunteers of political parties were free to join the movement and work to carry forward the vision and missions of Kalam for the development of the country. However, they could not be given any responsibility in the movement to avoid the movement getting a political colour, Mr. Ponraj said.
“What is applicable to others who are in politics will apply to Mr. Saleem as well,” Mr. Ponraj told The Hindu over phone.
Unlikely to get responsibility
Mr. Saleem is also unlikely to be given any responsibility in the ‘Kalam National Centre for Knowledge Discovery,’ a foundation which is on the anvil, he said.
Mr. Ponraj, who was with the former President for nearly two decades , had announced the movement at the ‘House of Kalam’ in Rameswaram along with Mr. Saleem and Sheik Dawood, another grand nephew.
Since Sheik Saleem has joined a political party, he has become ineligible to hold any post in the body
