New buildings for DIC, District Employment Office

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa inaugurated new buildings for the District Industries Centre and District Employment Office constructed at a cost of Rs.1.25 crore and Rs.1.50 crore, through videoconferencing from Chennai, on Thursday.

When the Chief Minister inaugurated the buildings, Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan, District Panchayat Chairman M.S. Saradamani, Chairman of the Kanyakumari District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union S.A. Asokan were present at Konam in Nagercoil.

An official said that in the new three-storey building for the District Employment Office with an area of 9,470 square feet on 25 cents of land, there were provisions for a spacious study hall with all facilities, for those appearing for competitive examinations. Kanyakumari district has 3.25 lakh job-seekers in the live registers, of whom 55 per cent were women.

The employment office was functioning from an old, rented building in Ramavarmapuram for the last 10 years. The department was paying a rent of Rs. 11,625 per month.

An additional building for the District Industries Centre (DIC) was constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.25 crore in Konam near the Government Polytechnic College in Nagercoil.

The two-storey building has a built-up area of 3,920 square feet. District Industries Centre General Manager K. Marimuthu and Assistant Director of District Employment Office Shanmugasundaram and officials from PWD were present.
