M. Natarajan, husband of V.K. Sasikala,, is recovering well in the liver intensive care unit of the Glenagles Global Hospital, a statement from the hospital said on Saturday morning.

He is awake and oriented and he is on ventilator support through tracheostomy, which was performed on Friday. As in any other combined liver and kidney transplant surgeries, his condition will be critical for the next few days. He is under close observation and monitoring, the statement said.

Mr. Natarajan, who had been admitted at the liver intensive care unit of the hospital under a team of doctors headed by Professor Mohamed Rela with worsening liver failure, kidney failure and lung congestion, underwent liver and kidney transplantation on October 4. Considering his age-associated co-morbidities, the patient’s condition was stable during the surgery.

The statement was issued by K. Ilankumaran, Director, Institute of Liver Disease and Transplantation, Gleneagles Global Health City.
