A special police team has cracked an over two-year-old murder case and arrested two persons in this connection.
In a statement, Superintendent of Police V. Vikraman said that the body of Paul Manickam (23) of Kesavaneri near Valliyoor was found near Valliyooran channel on February 22, 2013. Though the case was under investigation, there was not much headway and hence the assailants were at large.
Against this backdrop, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tirunelveli Range, S. Murugan and Mr. Vikraman jointly formed special teams to detect this case. Even as the special teams intensified their investigation, T. Lingadurai of Kesavaneri surrendered before the Village Administrative Officer on Friday.
When the police grilled him, Lingadurai told the investigators that he and Paul Manickam were working for P. Ravikumar of the same area. They were regularly taking clay from Kesavanari tank for Ravikumar’s brick kiln. When Paul Manickam misbehaved with Ravikumar’s wife, she informed her husband about it.
An enraged Ravikumar, with the help of Lingadurai, murdered Paul Manickam after taking him to Valliyooran channel.
After Lingadurai’s confession, the police also arrested Ravikumar.
