Most parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to get rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, thanks to a well-marked low-pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal, according to the Meteorological Department.

Officials said it is likely to become a depression and move closer to the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast on Tuesday. Rainfall is expected to start by Monday evening or night and become widespread on Tuesday.

S.Balachandran, Deputy Director General of Meteorology, Chennai, said rains would first hit the coastal areas and then spread to interior districts.

Chance of heavy spell

While the State is expected to get moderate spells till Wednesday, some places in Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Nagapattinam and Cuddalore may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall till Tuesday morning.

There are chances of heavy rainfall in some areas on Wednesday too.

Chennai would get rain up to 6 cm and if the system moves northwards, there is a chance for increase in rain, he said.
