Police recovered a mobile phone with a sim card and a memory card from the cell of Murugan, a life convict in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. Murugan is currently lodged in a high security prison in Vellore. There have been several instances of mobile phones and banned tobacco substances being seized from convicts in the prison.

But, officials are puzzled as to how the phone reached Murugan, who is lodged in a secured corridor. Prison authorities are conducting investigations to find the sources involved in procuring the phone for Murugan.
