A day after obtaining an interim injunction restraining Tamil biweekly Junior Vikatan from publishing defamatory articles against him, Municipal Administration Minister S.P. Velumani on Thursday came up with another civil suit before the Madras High Court against Arappor Iyakkam and its managing trustee Jayaram Venkatesan.

Justice R. Subramanian ordered notices returnable by March 8 on the civil suit, seeking nominal damages of ₹ 1 crore for having allegedly defamed the plaintiff’s reputation by accusing him of promoting cartels in awarding civil contracts by various municipal corporations in the State.

In the plaint, the Minister claimed that all allegations levelled by the NGO against him were unsubstantiated.

He accused the NGO of making defamatory statements even after filing a case against him.
