The Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) has revised the mobile water supply tariff for both domestic and commercial customers.

Effective from May 21

The new revised tariff came into effect from May 21 across all categories and tanker sizes. The price rise has been effected by the Metrowater without any public announcement.

According to the new tariff, a 6,000 kilolitre (KL) tanker would be priced at ₹475 against the previous rate of ₹400 for domestic and partly commercial customers. For commercial and institutional customers, the rate has been revised from ₹510 to ₹700.

The price of water for a 9,000 KL tanker has been fixed at ₹700 against the old price of ₹600 and for commercial and institutional customers, the new rate is ₹1,000. The old rate was ₹765.

For the 16,000 KL water tanker, the price has been increased by ₹130 at ₹1,200, while for the commercial/institutional customers, the revised tariff is ₹1,700 against ₹1,360.

Water treatment costs

A senior official of the Metrowater said the fare revision comes after a gap of 10 years and this new tariff was mainly because of increase in oil prices and cost of treating the water.

The official said that for domestic and partly commercial customers, the rate of percentage increase is 5% and for commercial/institutional categories, the increase is nearly 10%.
