The second phase of the Central government’s health mission ‘Indra Dhanush Immunisation Programme’ commenced in the district on Wednesday.

Launching the programme at Kamala Nehru Hospital here, health officials said that all children in the district would be immunised against seven vaccine-preventable diseases – diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, childhood tuberculosis, polio, hepatitis B and measles. Immunisation was the key to protect children from life-threatening conditions, they added. The immunisation work would continue till October 14. This week-long process would repeat during the same period in November, December and January, 2016.

A total of 471 children and 89 pregnant women were identified in 48 wards in Dindigul city.
