Taluk offices in the district wore a deserted look on Thursday as members of Tamil Nadu Revenue Department Officials Association kept away from work by resorting to ‘mass casual leave’, as a mark of protest against the State Government’s delay in setting right anomalies in implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations. Association representatives resolved to pressurise the government to fulfil their demand for setting right discrepancies in payment of house rent, transport and education allowances, for making good the difference in payment ranging from Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 8,000.

Their other demands included abolition of the new pension scheme; payment of the Pay Commission arrears for 2006; implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations with effect from January 1, 2011, with merger of 50 per cent dearness allowance with basic pay; prompt steps for filling up vacancies; and setting right of shortcomings in medical insurance scheme.

Salem: The members of the Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association applied for a day’s casual leave on Thursday to press their demands. They also staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate. They also demanded reinstatement of the Salai Paniyalargal as per the court direction. C. Rajkumar, district president of TNGEA, led the demonstration. S. Chellasamy, district secretary, V. Danushkodi, State deputy secretary of Tamil Nadu Town Panchayat Employees Association, and Arthanari, district secretary of the Revenue Officials Association, spoke.
