Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss said the acquittal of all the 17 persons accused was shocking. The Central government and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) should go on an appeal and ensure justice prevails.
The trial court’s judgment has brought back memories of the comments made by the Sarkaria Commission. “Though DMK leaders had committed irregularities scientifically, they were discharged for want of evidence,” Mr. Ramadoss alleged.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) said the judgment raised more questions than answers. “It was well established that the allocation of 2G spectrum had caused loss to the tune of ₹1.76 lakh crore. The Supreme Court had indicted some telecom companies involved for misuse of the allocated spectrum and cancelled their licences. Since the CBI case and the prosecution were inadequate, steps must be taken immediately to pursue the matter legally, so that the guilty are punished,” a statement said.
The Indian Union Muslim League national president K.M. Kader Mohideen said the release of former Union Minister A. Raja has brought happiness. “The accusations were baseless and the judgment has now given peace of mind to DMK president M. Karunanidhi,” Mr. Mohideen said. Dravida Kazhagam president K. Veeramani welcomed the judgment and said it was a victory for truth. He congratulated A. Raja and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi.
