A 47-year-old man, who had tested positive for the H1N1 virus, has been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Dharmapuri.
He was first tested positive at the Salem Government Medical College Hospital. It is suspected that the patient, a businessman, must have contracted it in Andhra Pradesh, where he had toured recently. He got himself admitted to a private hospital with fever on November 24. Later, he was sent to a private hospital in Bengaluru, where he was treated for pneumonia. However, after his condition worsened, he was shifted to the Salem hospital. He was sent to the Dharmapuri hospital as he wished, sources said.
On Wednesday, the Health Department conducted a door-to-door survey for symptomatic cases of swine flu at Sunderkuppam, the patient’s village. A team, led by Deputy Director of Health Prem Kumar, conducted the survey.
Field-level workers have been instructed to monitor fever cases, an official told The Hindu .
