Man, son convicted to life in murder

The Additional District Sessions Judge and Judge of the Protection of Civil Rights (PCR) court, S. Karthikeyan, on Thursday, convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, a person and his son in a murder case.

According to the prosecution, P. Pazhanimegam (55) and his son P. Arunkumar had murdered a youth P. Marimuthu (25) on May 25, 2012. Marimuthu fell in love with Pazhanimegam’s daughter P. Abirami and married her in 2011. Both Pazhanimegam and Arunkumar, who had resisted the marriage as the youth was from a different community, had kidnapped Marimuthu to Soorakottai and murdered him. The taluk police registered a case under Section 302 IPC (murder) and 364 IPC (Kidnapping for murder) against Arunkumar and Section 364 and 120 (B) IPC (conspiracy) against the father. The Judge who found them guilty under the sections, convicted and sentenced Arunkumar to two life sentences and 10 years imprisonment and ordered a fine of Rs. 25,000. The life sentences would run concurrently.

The judge sentenced Pazhanimegam to life sentence and 10 years jail.
