The rural police arrested a 24-year-old man on charges of marrying a minor girl here recently.

His wife, who was an accomplice, was also arrested.

The police said that A. Periyasamy of Edappadi was married to Sangeetha for five years, but do not have a child.

The 17-year-old girl was a relative of them and was residing nearby.

On June 10, the girl accompanied Sangeetha to the hospital, but did not return home.

The girl’s father lodged a complaint with the Edappadi police who registered a girl missing case.

Inquiries revealed that the girl was in constant touch with her friends in the village over phone.

The police traced the mobile tower to a location in Avinashi.

It was found that Periyasamy and Sangeetha lured the girl for marriage and the girl went with the couple.

Periyasamy married the girl at a temple in Avinashi, the police said.

The girl was rescued from the house.
