A 33-year-old youth S. Shanmugaraja of Madhulampettai near Kumbakonam has been detained under the Prevention of Blackmarketing and Supply of Essential Commodities Act. N. Subbaiyan, District Collector, issued the orders on Monday detaining him under the Act for having involved in various cases of hoarding and smuggling essential commodities. The order was based on the recommendations of the P. Saminathan, Superintendent of Police, Civil Supplies CID Cell, and P. Tamizhmaran, Inspector of Civil Supplies CID.
The youth was lodged in the Central Prison in Tiruchi later in the evening.
