‘Sarkar' controversies: mala fide intention behind film, says D. Jayakumar

Criticising Vijay-starrer Sarkar for hurting the sentiments of people, Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar indicated that legal action would be initiated against the movie producers, actor and the director.

Responding to the raging controversy, the Minister, a spokesman of the AIADMK, said that after Jayalalithaa’s demise, actors had lost fear. In trying to model themselves like (AIADMK founder) MGR, they were uttering unwarranted dialogues. “But they will never be accepted by people. There can be only one MGR,” he said.

“When there are so many names, why should they use that particular name [Komalavalli]. It can be seen only as mala fide intent. It is a clear attempt to denigrate a charismatic leader who is no more,” he said.

Law Minister C.Ve. Shanmugam had said they (the actor, producers and the theatres screening the film) should face prosecution. “I am also of the opinion that legal action should be taken against them,” Mr. Jayakumar told reporters.

On Wednesday, Information Minister ‘Kadambur’ C. Raju had warned of action against the makers of the movie if they did not remove “objectionable” scenes with political undertones. If the makers failed to remove the scenes voluntarily, action would be taken.
