Make Tamil compulsory: Ramadoss

“Awards should be given only to those toppers who studied Tamil as one of the subjects”

May 11, 2011 12:10 am | Updated 12:10 am IST - CHENNAI:

Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss on Tuesday demanded that studying Tamil language be made compulsory for all school students in the State.

In a statement here, he said that while the government was giving State ranking in its 10th and 12th standard public examinations only to those who had studied Tamil as one of the subjects, the practice was not followed while identifying subject-wise toppers.

Dr. Ramadoss said the prizes and awards should be given only to those toppers who had studied Tamil as one of the subjects.

Otherwise, the number of students completing their school and college education without even learning Tamil language would increase. The government should not allow such a thing to happen.

In order to overcome this problem, the State government should make Tamil language compulsory for all students.
