They were reacting to reports that North Indian candidates got a lion’s share of railway jobs in Madurai and Tiruchi Divisions

MDMK general secretary Vaiko and PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Thursday contended that jobs in the railway in the State should go only to locals.

They were reacting to reports that North Indian candidates got a lion’s share of railway jobs in Madurai and Tiruchi Divisions for posts including trackman, pointsman, helper and gatekeeper.

In a statement, Mr. Vaiko condemned the jobs being allotted to other state candidates and called for preference to be given to locals in Tamil Nadu.

In a statement, Dr. Ramadoss said the explanation that this was due to the Centre’s reservation policy, which offers 7.5% quota to the Scheduled Tribes and that population was less in Tamil Nadu was not acceptable.
