Collector K. Maharabushanam on Thursday distributed kits to children with intellectual and developmental disabilities so as to develop their ability.
Under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), medical camps were conducted and 372 special schoolchildren in the age group of 6 to 14 were identified for the year 2014-15.
At a function organised at the Collectorate, sensory kits were given to mentally challenged children, wheel chair tri-cycle and walker to physically challenged and mobility cane and Braille kit to visually challenged children.
The kits for children were manufactured by Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India, a Government of India Undertaking, and distributed to special children under the Assistance to Disabled Persons Scheme. A Multi-Sensory Inclusive Education Development Kit contains Eye Hand Coordination balls, stepping stone, massage ball with stick, olive massage ball, squeezer, air cushion, user manual and a kit bag.
The kits were approved by the Department of Disability Affairs under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of the central government.
Parents said that the learning aid and tools would help their children to build their motivation.

Officials said that 6,219 special children had been identified in the district and learning kits were being provided to them.
