AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Saturday asked district secretaries and other office-bearers of her party to ensure the participation of leaders of Left parties and the MDMK in public meetings to be organised between April 22 and 24 to highlight “anti-people” features of the Tamil Nadu budget.

There will be two meetings in each Assembly constituency.

With the AIADMK and MDMK joining hands with the Left parties to organise a nationwide ‘hartal' on April 27 to highlight the adverse effects of the new economic policies of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government, the scope of the public meetings has now been expanded.

Ms. Jayalalithaa said these meetings would explain to the public the spiralling prices of essential commodities, hike in prices of petroleum products and reduction in subsidy for fertilizers.
