With the torrential downpour not relenting, a major landslip was reported at third hairpin bend in the Pollachi-Valparai ghat road on Thursday morning at around 5 a.m. The landslip occurred for a length of about a km and was cleared by the authorities within three hours, traffic was restored at around 8 a.m. In spite of this, motorists find it difficult to use the road, as minor landslips and boulders from the hills had rolled onto the road at many places.

As the rain continues in western ghats for the last few days, the Nadumalai River is in spate since Wednesday night. As a result of this, flood waters entered into the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) Coimbatore Region Depot in Valparai and adjoining new bus stand. As water stagnates, authorities were forced to stop operating over 40 services to several estates since morning.

Flood water also entered into Garden, Childrens Park and also the residential quarters of taluk officials and also the residential quarters of Manamboly power house.

A 41-year old A. Velankanni was drowned in the water as flood waters entered her house during midnight on Wednesday.

Almost all the dams and rivers are in spate in Coimbatore district. The Nedumalai River, Sholayar River and Vazhlaithottam River were flooded after the excess water released from Sholayar Dam. Entire inflow into Solaiyar Dam was released through 7 sluice gates.

Due to heavy rain, one house was damaged and rain water entered into three houses in Qaide-Millet Colony near Athupalam in Coimbatore city in the early hours on Thursday. As the water reversed from the overflowing Kurichicanal, the residents in the area are being shifted to a safer places.
