Kodanad case: TTV demands HC-monitored investigation

January 20, 2019 12:00 am | Updated 12:00 am IST - TIRUCHI

Seeking a thorough probe into the burglary at former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s estate in Kodanad and the “mystery” behind the deaths of individuals linked to the incident, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran said on Saturday that the investigation should be monitored by a senior High Court judge, given the recent allegations linking Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to the crime.

Addressing the media after inaugurating the Tiruchi district north division office of his party near Tiruvanaikovil, Mr. Dhinakaran said the “panic reaction” of the Chief Minister to the allegation of complicity made against him had raised doubts. It ill behoved the CM to spend a substantial amount of time defending himself in the case at a meeting organised to celebrate the birth anniversary of AIADMK founder M.G. Ramachandran, he said.

Commenting on the anti-BJP rhetoric of AIADMK propaganda secretary and Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M. Thambi Durai, Mr. Dhinakaran claimed that the two parties had already decided to form an alliance to contest the Lok Sabha election.

Though the AIADMK was aware that it will lose its deposit if it joined hands with the BJP, the CM did not dare oppose the Centre because he feared his government would be dismissed. Nevertheless, there was truth to Mr. Thambi Durai's contention on a secret pact between the DMK and the BJP, he claimed.
