A painter interrogated by the police in connection with a murder case died at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) on Saturday triggering protests from his relatives who alleged that he had died due to police torture.

Agitated villagers blocked traffic on the Cuddalore-Panruti road on Saturday demanding action against police personnel of Neyveli township police station.

According to police, E. Subramani (38), a painter of Pattambakkam was residing in his relative’s house at Neyveli.
