The Tamil Nadu government will be keen to set up another large greenfield IT park in the State if it can get access to around 5,000 acres of land, Industries Minister M.C. Sampath has said.

Speaking at the inauguration of the ‘Design the Thinking’ workshop to make Tamil Nadu a model State for industrialisation in the country, Mr. Sampath said the State was No.1 in industries, with 37,720 industrial establishments, and also in terms of workforce. “We have to hold this position and march ahead,” he said.

“The workshop will help in designing a roadmap, keeping in mind the current reality and the vision for Tamil Nadu’s next version of Industrialisation,” he said.

The two-day workshop is being conducted by the School of Design Thinking.

J. Kumaragurubaran, managing director, SIPCOT, said the training will help officials bridge the gap between industries and institutions. “When industries come to raise issues with us, they complain that the officials don’t understand certain issues. Industries also feel that we approach them with a regulatory mindset…they want a facilitation framework; someone to listen to their problems within the rules,” he said.

‘Facilitate business’

Mr. Kumaragurubaran exhorted officials to be business facilitators to ensure that industries invest in the State. He said SIPCOT was trying to convert all industrial parks into eco-industrial parks so that foreign investors can set up shop here without any hassles.

“The workshop will provide an opportunity to shape the thinking and align the mindset and approach of the 30+ leaders from the Department of Industries, Government of Tamil Nadu, to lead this journey and make the vision of Tamil Nadu successful,” said Arun Jain, CMD and Founder of the School of Design Thinking.
