The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) South Chennai (North) district unit’s secretary and former T. Nagar MLA, V.P. Kalairajan, who was expelled from the party on Wednesday, is likely to join the DMK.

The expulsion followed Mr. Kalairajan’s “activities” that were against the policies and principles of the organisation, according to a statement issued by T.T.V. Dhinakaran, the deputy general secretary of the AMMK.

Mr. Kalairajan, who was elected on the ticket of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in 2006 and 2011, was however not given the party ticket in 2016.

He had been a prominent figure of the camp belonging to the Sasikala-Dhinakaran camp, ever since the AIADMK witnessed a revolt by O. Panneerselvam, who is now Deputy Chief Minister, in February 2017.
