Jewellery worth ₹98.05 lakh stolen

In a daylight heist on the Salem–Kochi Highway near K.G. Chavadi, robbers stole gold and silver jewellery worth ₹98.05 lakh belonging to Kerala-based Kalyan Jewellers while two employees were transporting the consignment in an SUV from Thrissur to Coimbatore. Confirming the heist, Kalyan Jewellers in a statement said the employees “fell prey to highway robbery”.

According to the complaint, the consignment had around 350 sovereign of gold jewellery and 243.320 g of silver jewellery.

The crime was commtted around 11.30 a.m. near a fuel station when employees — Arjun C. R. And Wilfred T. S. — were travelling in an SUV.

The company, in its complaint, said another SUV and a hatchback had tailed the company vehicle.

The robbers blocked the path and then took away the company vehicle after forcing the two employees out.

Insurance claim

T. S. Kalyanaraman, chairman and managing director of Kalyan Jewellers, said that all information had been provided to the authorities to enable swift action and recovery.
