Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Wednesday disbursed Rs. 53 lakh to 106 indigent members of the Anna Thozhirsanga Peravai (ATP), the party’s labour union.

This was in continuation of the practice of aiding the indigent members of the ATP, coinciding with the May Day celebrations. The election schedule delayed this year’s disbursal.

On arrival at the party headquarters an hour after noon, Ms. Jayalalithaa started disbursing the family welfare assistance to the ATP members who required support. Two beneficiaries were identified from each party district unit and also from the Puducherry unit.

Some of the beneficiaries included the families of ATP members who had died during the year. They included M. Mahalakshmi of Chennai, whose father was a physically challenged ATP member, besides a group of women whose deceased husbands had been ATP members. Each beneficiary was granted Rs. 50,000. ATP State secretary R. Chinnasamy was present.
