For once, inmates of Little Sisters of the Poor Old Age Home at Thindal relived some happy moments reflecting in dancing and singing without inhibitions, with a sense of elation over being cared for by the medical fraternity.

Medical camp

The Indian Medical Association, as part of its project for care of elderly mandated by United Nations observed World Elders Day at the Home by conducting a medical camp on Wednesday, and a rally and felicitation programme on Thursday.

The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation by District Collector S. Prabakar, who, in his address, emphasised on the need for the literate younger generation to draw on the expertise and experience of the aged people for assured progress in life.

State President of IMA - TNSB R.V.S. Surendran, Honorary State Secretary C.N. Raja, State President Elect S. Damodaran and other functionaries spoke about the need for effective intervention measures to avert a challenge to society due to changing demography reflecting in continuous increase in number of aged people. The world population will increase by 100 crore persons every five years warranting the society to be more responsible in caring for elders with a humane approach, Dr. Surendran said.
