At the Engineers’ Day celebration at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), chancellor G. Viswanathan said that with many countries facing shortage of engineers, India was in a position to contribute engineers to all nations in the world.
Speaking on the occasion that also marked the inauguration of the Students’ Council, he said that the population was declining in about 50 countries, as a result of which they would have to look to India or China for workforce.
He added that every country required engineers for development, according to a press release.
Sudhansu Mani, general manager of Integral Coach Factory (ICF), said the first ‘Make in India’ train designed to run at a speed of 160 km per hour would soon replace Shatabdi Express.
ICF has so far produced 60,000 coaches and is expected to produce 3,200 more this year.
A glimpse into ICF’s feats
He said that all the coaches were carbon-negative and are produced with renewable energy, the release said. He presented a glimpse into the engineering feats and eco-friendly measures achieved at ICF since its inception.
He added that ICF was the only workshop in the Indian Railways to have introduced 100% biometrics that has done away with absenteeism and proxies.
Razanadrasoa Marie Leotine, High Commissioner of Madagascar to India, wished that VIT imparted technical education to students of Madagascar.
G.V. Selvam, vice president of VIT, Anand A. Samuel, vice chancellor, and S. Narayanan, pro vice chancellor were present.
